Online Defamation ruining lives of many

Defamation can have severe consequences on a person’s social life, leading to damaged relationships, loss of reputation, and emotional distress. When false statements about someone are spread, whether through slander (spoken) or libel (written), people may start to distrust or distance themselves from the affected individual.

Friends, family, and colleagues might question the person’s integrity, leading to isolation or strained interactions. In extreme cases, defamation can result in social exclusion, making it difficult for the individual to engage in their community or professional circles. Additionally, the emotional toll of being falsely accused or misrepresented can cause anxiety, stress, and a loss of confidence, further affecting social interactions. Online defamation, in particular, can have long-lasting effects since negative information spreads quickly and may be difficult to erase. Even if proven false, the stigma associated with defamatory claims can linger, making it challenging to rebuild one’s social image.
